Here's why failure is an important part of success

Here's why failure is an important part of success.

You ask a mate to come to the pub to neck a couple schooeys after work.

He says no.

Does the no mean never?

Or does it simply mean yes to something else?

Another time...

Another friend...

Another activity...

Here's why failure is an important part of success.

Failure is a scary thing.

Rejection is real.

But no doesn't mean never—it just means yes to something or someone else.

Recently I've seen a lot of no.

Both personally and within my friendship circles. People experiencing rejection, failure, knock backs and knock downs.

In everything:

  • Work
  • Sport
  • Dating
  • Money
  • Business
  • Relocation
  • Relationships

It can be disheartening.

As I said, rejection is real! The sting of a stern NO can feel like a complete denial of who you are.

But it's not.

That no is just a yes in disguise, it's a yes to another attempt to get to the real yes aka hard yes.

The famous Edison quote summarises it perfectly...

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

Love it.

You're not losing. You're not failing.

You're collecting data.

Embrace the process and the feeling of the no, because it is getting you one step closer to the yes.

Storytime...

I just started a job in sales.

One of the key ideas is handling and being comfortable with rejection.

But my company takes it a step further...

We don't just accept it...

We embrace it!

If someone cuts me off at the beginning of my spiel or hangs up on me, I don't get annoyed, I say to myself 'what a legend'.

Why?

Because they aren't wasting my time.

They aren't slowing me down while I prospect for what I ultimately want—a resounding YES!

My point... embrace the no!

Embrace rejection, embrace failure.

It hurts. Yes!

I will not deny that... but you need it.

You need failure like a car needs petrol, like a tree needs sun or like the Parramatta Eels need to promise the world to their supporters and inevitably deliver mediocrity.

Trust me.

Collect that data.

Get to the no/rejection/failure quickly and move on.

Fail fast.

You're only one no away from the yes that will change your life forever... and that's facts!

Have a great day gang.

With gratitude,

Sav.

Sunday Sparring Are you creating timestamps for your life? One of my all-time favourite sayings. "If not me, then who? If not now, then when?" It is a simple call to arms, a self-reflective commentary on one's duty or willingness to do the work. The saying has been reserved for big moments or moments of crisis. When the chips are stacked against a person or movement, it is a rallying cry to all those listening—responsibility and ownership of the outcome starts now, with us. I used the...

I truly believe that. Seriously is there anything more valuable? The peace and sanctity that comes from a mind free of chaos and doubt—that is heaven on Earth. Consider the opposite for a second... Sunday Sparring You become what you consume Your mind will take on the character of your most frequent thoughts: souls are dyed by thoughts. —Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 5.16 You are what you eat. Or, more accurately—you reflect what you consume. This is true in almost every sense of the phrase: • Physically • Spiritually • Intellectually • Metaphorically Fitness experts will proclaim that ‘abs are made in the kitchen’, inferring that without the proper diet and balance of caloric intake,...
